Sutter Gould Medical Foundation Announces New CEO

April 4, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MODESTO – James Conforti is the new chief executive officer for Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF). Conforti succeeds former CEO David Bradley, who accepted an executive position with Sutter Health in Marin County.

Conforti was formerly the chief executive officer of Sutter North Medical Foundation in Marysville-Yuba City. While there, Conforti directed the activities of a multi-site physician group practice consisting of 70 providers and 370 foundation employees, 11 clinics, and a home health and hospice agency. In addition to leading an impressive financial turnaround, Conforti guided the development of a new medical office building and ambulatory surgery center that opened in Yuba City this spring. During James’ tenure, Sutter North ranked in the 90th percentile in patient satisfaction among medical groups in the western region of the nation.

Prior to his three-year stint as head of Sutter North, Conforti worked for Sutter Gould in 1997 as Director of Business Development and Contracting. Two years later he became Regional Director of Managed Care and Business Development for Sutter Health’s Central Valley Service Area, and was instrumental in physician network development, managed care contracting and the development of the master facilities plan for the service area encompassing Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties.

“James knows first-hand how Sutter Gould Medical Foundation operates,” said Martin Pricco, M.D., president of Gould Medical Group, the largest physician group contracted with SGMF. “He will be able to get to work right away with the physicians, management and staff to continue to improve the way we provide care for our patients.”

Throughout his health care career, Conforti has held senior management positions in strategic planning, managed care contracting, business development, and financial operations. His management experience in a variety of health care settings began as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps. His experience includes roles at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and as the assistant administrator of the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He earned a master’s degree in Health Finance and Management at Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington.

Sutter Gould operates 17 neighborhood care centers in the Central Valley, including Ceres, Modesto, Patterson, Stockton, Tracy and Turlock. Their mission is to improve the health and well being of people in the communities they serve through compassion and excellence. Sutter Gould Medical Foundation is an affiliate of Sutter Health, one of California’s largest and most respected non-profit health care systems.
